Thanksgiving has come and gone and, for many of us, that means its time to start Christmas shopping. If you’re reading this, you probably know a real estate agent or are an agent yourself and I thought it would be fun to make a list of gifts for the real estate pro in your life! I’ve chosen items that vary in price but what they all share is a certain level of “usefulness” to agents, who spend the majority of their time on the road. Here are my eight ideas, in no particular order:
1. Bright, sturdy flashlight. Depending on the situation, an agent may be showing a home without power or showing to individuals who are only available during the evening. In fact, agent or not, a good flashlight is one of the most useful things to have around. I’d suggest one of the newer multi-LED models because the bulbs and batteries last much longer than traditional lights.
2. Backup Battery Pack. Agents are always on the phone and/or laptop and these relatively inexpensive battery packs can be a life saver! Just charge the backup and, when needed, it can provide a few more hours for their smartphone, computer, or tablet.
3. Compact “multi-tool”. These can be handy in so many ways around the wide range of properties agents encounter, unscrewing fixtures to change light bulbs, inspecting vents, and so on.
4. GPS Unit. In-car units, such as the ones produced by Garmin and Tom Tom, can be had for cheap these days and they can remove the headaches associated with visiting a property for the first time or locating a resource while on the road.
5. Cleaning Kit. Nothing makes a worse impression than a dirty car when giving a customer a ride or a mess when you arrive at the property. You never know when that buyer is going to spill their drink and air freshener can remove the musty smell sometimes associated with unoccupied homes. Like the multi-tool, this is one of those things that will come in handy in countless ways.
6. Laser Tape Measure. With the push of a button, these nifty devices can give you the dimensions of a room, and are useful for preparing listings as well as answering any buyer questions. Some of these even come with a traditional tape measure and/or level incorporated in to the same device.
7. Digital Camera. With the rise of camera phones, a digital camera may seem redundant, but never underestimate the superior image quality even a simple “point and shoot” can offer. With their larger sensors and optical zoom, a dedicated camera is something agents rarely leave the office without.
8. Gas Cards. With the cost of gas and the amount of driving agents do, this gift idea speaks for itself.
If you think we missed anything, leave your ideas in the comments and, of course, Happy Holidays!!
