All Hail the Queen!

We at Miller and Associates would like to congratulate our very own Rebecca Barrow, 2013’s Mardi Gras Queen for the Krewe of St. Andrews! Though most people associate Mardi Gras with massive parties, many are unfamiliar with the tremendous amount of work these Mardi Gras Krewes do in their communities. The Krewe’s stated mission is improvement and growth of the community through fund raising and direct involvement and they are a registered 5013c organization. Some of the efforts supported by the over one hundred fifty member Krewe of St. Andrews include Girls Incorporated, the Sims Veterans’ Home, Second Chance, Habitat for Humanity, and the Boys and Girls Club of Bay County. As one of their many responsibilities, Rebecca and this year’s King, Charles Segrest, have added the Sunrise Community of St. Andrews to that list. In addition to directly funding such causes, the Krewe provides college scholarships for those in need, such as parent’s trying to improve their families lives through education. That isn’t to say its all sweat, however, and there is definitely fun to be had! The Krewe organizes and participates in the expected Mardi Gras parties and parades such as the Grande Parade scheduled for February 2nd and a Kids and Pets parade the day before. There is also a golf tournament in April, the proceeds of which go to scholarships at FSU, Troy University, and Gulf Coast State College. In fact, all this “fun” is the primary source of fund generation and, as with the charitable work, the fun is often shared with Krewes from other areas. If you would like more information on how you can become involved or about any parades or events, visit the Krewe at standrewsmardigras.com and Laissez les bons temps rouler!
