The most obvious appeal of a less conventional date for your vacation is that you will avoid the crowds. Sure, summer is all about the water in the South East, and Spring Break has party appeal, but it never looks as nice sitting in or trying to dodge traffic every time you set foot outside. A side effect of the smaller crowds, and another benefit for the savvy traveler, is that prices will be lower on everything from lodging to shopping and dining. In a tourist economy like PCB, prices are a major tool businesses use to keep people coming when the traditional season is over and visiting in October will save you money, plain and simple.
Those of you who aren’t familiar with the area may think that you’ll be trading the aforementioned benefits for a less enjoyable experience at the beach itself but, in our climate, that usually isn’t the case. The water stays warm all the way through October and air temperatures hover in the mid to high 80s. In fact, October might actually be nicer than the summer unless you’re a fan of scalding heat indexes well above 100 degrees. Lastly, when the sun sets or if you want a break from the sand, there are plenty of events such as Oktoberfest and the area’s famous Seafood and Music Festival to keep you and your family or guests occupied.
