Protect Your Home (even when you’re not there)

Unfortunately, crime doesn’t take a vacation.  If you’re going to be away for a few days, here are some tips to safeguard your residence while you’re gone.

Before leaving your home, make it look as if someone is still there: use timers on lights in various rooms. This will ensure your home appears occupied.

Don’t reveal your plans in your voice mail message or on social media.  Sharing your vacation plans on Facebook and other social media can make your home a target for burglars or vandals.

Never leave a key under the welcome mat, in a mailbox or other hiding places – most burglars know where to look.

Ask a neighbor to park a car in your driveway and pick up your mail and newspapers. Disable your garage door and make sure the door from the garage to the house is securely locked.

The typical burglar takes less than five minutes to enter your home. Make sure all doors and windows are locked.

By taking a few easy precautions, you can enjoy your vacation without worrying about the safety and security of your home.
