Many people are surprised to know that Panama City has been recognized as one of America’s 100 Best Small Art Towns. Located in the heart of downtownPanama City is the Visual Arts Center of Northwest Florida. As a local non-profit organization, the Visual Arts Center offers a variety of unique programs that grow and foster the arts in our community.

I recently stopped by to see the North Bay Haven children’s exhibit and couldn’t believe how many talented young artists we have in our school system! It was also great to see how through the Visual Arts Center, the students were learning about the importance of art and how to hang and showcase it. One child was there with his parent and beamed with pride seeing his art displayed in the Main Gallery!

During my visit I also learned that along with their exhibits, the Visual Arts Center offers sculpture classes, pottery, photography and a painting class called Paint Your ‘Art Out. They also offer great workshops and several weeks of Summer Your Art Programs. Their next exhibit will be “100 Years of Bay, A Centennial Exhibit” and it will be a collection of photography, artifacts and first hand accounts of the growth and progress of Bay County over the last 100 years.
